Slow is Fast in your Business

Welcome to Courageous Vol. 2

If you’re new here, this is my weekly letter to help YOU gain radical clarity, develop your culture building skills, and build a feminist business that honors your unique brilliance and nourishes your community and the collective!

Okay…Let’s get into it!

Weekly Words of Wisdom

“Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast”
        -Rachel Rodgers

Our society is addicted to instant gratification.

Instant access, same-day delivery, fast fashion, fast food…

It keeps folks locked in a constant grind, always seeking the next quick fix.

That grind game is rooted in the Capitalist Routine but we’re not playing by those rules anymore.

I’ve found that most things worth having come with time, intention, and discerning action.

When I first heard Rachel say “Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast,” it clicked for me…

We can move slow and with care, while also moving swiftly towards our business goals. There is no need to approach our life’s work with unnecessary urgency.

Make space for your own well-being in your business, because if you don’t build that in now, it’s harder to reclaim it later.

Radical Clarity Reframe

Hustle, grind and instant gratification are ALL rooted in the extractive Capitalist model.

These mindsets condition people to put productivity + profit ahead of their own wellbeing, and that is NOT what we’re trying to do with our feminist businesses.

Instead, we can choose to build slowly and smoothly. We can create systems that support us as we grow, rather than burning out in an attempt to skip steps in our business growth process.

When we choose slow and smooth business practices, it translates into a sustainable and (eventually) exponential growth.

Culture Building Tools

Part of slow and smooth growth is setting boundaries with yourself in your business. Spending 16 hours at a desk, or obsessing over Instagram 24 hours a day is NOT a sustainable growth strategy.

I’m not saying that we don’t have to work extra hours sometimes..

What I am saying, is that having boundaries helps us prioritize what ACTUALLY helps us grow our business and our impact.

And when you set and honor your own boundaries, you give your clients and your community permission to do the same.

Feminist Business Practice

Build rest into your business strategy. Yes. I said it!

If you don’t have time to rest, you’ll eventually end up your business on an empty tank. And I promise that will NOT be a smooth ride.

Note – It takes a lot of courage to resist the Capitalist Routine and to prioritize ourselves in our work… But when you put yourself first, your community wins too.

I suggest checking out Caitlin Doherty, @bopocoach on Instagram. She’s building a rest centered business and helps other healers coaches and activists cultivate radical self care, so they can stay filled up for their unique work in the world.

That’s it for this week! I hope this feels helpful for you, wherever you are in your business building journey.
