Walking on the “edges” in your business to build a just world

Have you ever had one of those dreams where you’re about to fall off the edge of a cliff, and your body jerks awake?

I have them all the time.

And this is what my waking life has been like for the last 18 months. As I have deepened my commitment to living + working in alignment with movements for justice, I have felt like I am always on the edge of something magnificent and terrifying.

While this process of awakening hasn’t been all love + light + rainbows, it has been the most transformational time in my life.

Why?

Because most of my growth in my life and business has come from walking “along the edge.”

My growth has come from walking outside of my comfort zone.

Over the last decade, I have witnessed New Age spirituality explode into mainstream culture.

Even though many folks have benefited from New Age philosophy, it’s still highly problematic.

The New Age movement is built on watered down spiritual practices. And it won’t carry us forward into an age defined by collective liberation + justice.

So in 2017, I began to consciously move away from the fluff of the New Age, and into the Shadows that only existed on the edge within my spiritual communities.

In those shadows, I came face to face with the parts of myself that needed to heal.

Ancestral wounds, cultural bias, internalized self-hate, and massive shame.

And it was on the edge, precariously perched outside my comfort zone, that I found truth, healing, and awakening.

It was on this edge that I was able to start doing the REAL transformational + healing work.

I had to unlearn the harmful bullshit that I had been conditioned to believe about myself, my community, and our collective human family.

I had to let go of the social myths that told me I wasn’t worthy, that my community was powerless, and that our human family was doomed.

Once I unlearned all the bullshit conditioning, I was ready to take action and show up in my power as a catalyst for social + cultural change.

I was ready to help other entrepreneurs connect with a vision for collective change, so that together we could dismantle oppressive systems + build a world that truly serves ALL the people.

It took courage, resilience, strength, and patience.

I had to learn the true history of the systems that our society is built upon.

And then I had to find the language that would encourage and inspire others to walk out to their edge as well.

Because the edge is where the big magic happens.

It’s not the ” sparkly rainbows and unicorns” kind of magic.

It’s the “caterpillar breaking down into goo, and reforming itself as a butterfly” kind of magic.

When you walk on the edge in your business, you have no choice but to lean into massive transformation, awakening, and relearning.

It’s tough, but it’s worth it.
