I know it sounds cheesy…
But I mean it when I say that each of us has something beautiful and unique to offer the world.
Your unique human experience positions you to contribute something that only you can share.
It’s why you’re here.
And it’s why you feel called to certain people, places, projects, etc.
This contribution is part of your personal navigation system.
It guides you towards the work that is yours to do in the world, what ever that work is.
But there is a thief robbing us of the opportunity and the joy that comes with discovering our unique contribution.
And that thief is called perfectionism.
Perfectionism steals power and potency…
Which, for business owners, leads to a decrease in our profits and our impact.
Perfectionism fuels the capitalist machine by keeping people distracted by an impossible goal.
And I’ve gotta be transparent with you….
I have been in a gnarly perfectionism spiral for months.
At first I wrote off my lack of motivation, and cycles of self sabotage as a side-effect of the pandemic…
Because it is normal to experience some level of dissociation when society as you know it begins to crumble right before our eyes… you know?
But about two weeks ago, I realized it wasn’t about the pandemic, at least not entirely.
I was also experiencing a lot of fear about getting it wrong, ruffling feathers, or offending someone.
And those fears are totally valid.
I talk business and politics and spirituality ALL-DAY-LONG… of course someone is going to be offended…
But the problem is that those fears have been keeping me from taking the bold and imperfect action that I need to take to achieve my goals…
And speaking of goals and perfectionism…
In the beginning of 2020, I set a 5 year goal to directly support 500 people build their business on their own terms.
Since setting that goal, I have supported 33 entrepreneurs, freelancers, and creatives.
Whew… that feels super vulnerable to share, because it’s NOT where I thought I would be at this point in the 5 year plan.
The perfectionist voice in my head keeps saying “At this rate, you’ll never hit your goal… you might as well quit.”
But I’m not going to let perfectionism steal my dream of having a thriving business built on anti-capitalist values.
I’m not going to let it distract me from doing the work that I’m here to do.
And I’m not going to let it keep me from serving the next 468+ people who are ready to build a radical business on their own terms.
So I’m kicking perfectionism to the curb… again…
And I’m inviting you to do the same.
If perfectionism is stopping you from doing the damn thing.. I feel you… You’re not alone…
And also… it’s time to knock it off.
There are people out there waiting for you to show up…
Even if its messy and imperfect, because they need what you have to offer.
