Do you ever feel like you are always playing catch up in business and in life?
The Capitalist System has put productivity + hustle on a pedestal. And there is this narrative that the harder you work and the busier you are, the more valuable you are to society.
But this cultural norm keeps us from tapping into our full potential.
If we’re always busy, then we aren’t leaving enough space for inspiration, for creativity, or to celebrate how far we’ve come.
And if your work is spiritual or healing based, you gotta make time for yourself so you can fill your own cup. And so you can continue doing what your soul has called you to do.
For most of my life, I measured my own worth based on how productive I was.
If I wasn’t doing, going, moving, or learning, I wasn’t contributing enough.
I felt like there was always more work to do.
Not only did this narrative play out in my personal life, but it played out in my business as well.
I would spend hours connecting on social media. I would spend days brainstorming my next offering. And I would spend weeks trying to build a rock-solid marketing plan.
But you know what?
I felt like I was never doing enough…
My busy-ness kept me from being fully present with my clients, with my family and friends, and with myself.
And it showed.
My clients weren’t getting the results they wanted. My relationship with my husband felt strained. And I was neglecting my self-care.
But instead of taking time to re-evaluate, I stepped on the “hustle” pedal.
I stayed up late to write course content.
I constantly checked my social media accounts for new notifications.
I invested in business coaches, courses, and groups.
The work was endless. I felt like a fucking hamster on a wheel.
I wasn’t making those 10k months that all coaches were talking about, and I started to burn out.
I remember asking myself, “How long can I keep this up?”
And then last December, things started to get CRAZY…
My anxiety spiked. My motivation plummeted. And my body started to retaliate.
I got an infection in one of my wisdom teeth. And while I layed in bed waiting for antibiotics from the local health clinic, I was visited by an alien. And no, it wasn’t a dream. I was WIDE awake. (Don’t worry I’ll write more about my alien encounter. It’s a story worthy of it’s own email.)
Shortly after the wisdom tooth infection and alien encounter, my husband and I had to move out of our apartment in Oregon because our landlord was significantly raising our rent.
And through this intense chaos, that’s when it hit me:
My mind had been poisoned by the capitalist machine. And as long as I was playing by the rules of that system, I would never succeed.
So I surrendered, and once we were settled in our new home, I made some BIG adjustments.
I slowed down.
I adjusted my work schedule so I could enjoy evenings with my hubby.
I cultivated strategies to help me manage my time, including time blocking, daily task lists, and weekly goal setting ceremonies.
Then in June, I did something I had been resisting for a long time.
I created a business plan for the next quarter.
And I felt something I wasn’t expecting…
Freedom.
I avoided planning ahead in my business because I didn’t want to feel stuck or limited. But when I planned ahead, the exact opposite happened…
Right away, I had more room to breathe in my personal life and in my business. I knew exactly when I was launching an offering. I didn’t feel like my energy was in 20 different places anymore.
My anxiety essentially disappeared.
For the first time in a long time, I had a clear path forward.
And that clear path allowed me to focus on what I do best: create powerful content and hold supportive containers for my clients.
Having a map for my business gave me the time I needed to reflect on all of the growth that I had moved through in recent years.
And in these moments, I realized the capitalist narrative that keeps us all in a state of hustle, is also keeping us disconnected from our own power and our potential.
But we can take our power back, and embody our full potential.
When we take time to care for ourselves… when we commit to exploring our own wild creativity… and when carve our own pathways to success we rebel against a system that only gives a shit about using us as productivity machines.
And we are so much more than cogs in a broken system.
With that said, If you’re a rebellious business owner and you want to create more freedom for yourself and your clients…
